Obituary of Josita D. Porter

Josita (Jo) Dawn Porter, 85, a longtime resident of Salinas, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, after many years of battling chronic health conditions. She was born July 20, 1938, in Chowchilla, CA, to Fay and Elmer Godsey.

Jo moved to Monterey County as a child and graduated from Salinas High School in 1956. After marrying Gerald (Jerry) Porter, they continued to live in Salinas with their daughter, Christy. 
For many years, Jo was an active member of the Phi Epsilon Phi social sorority, where she was a past president of the Alpha Xi chapter and also past president at the national level. She was a social butterfly her entire life and she enjoyed meeting friends and family for lunch, shopping, or a game of tile rummy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Fay Godsey; her father, Elmer Godsey; her husband, Gerald Porter; and her brother-in-law, Jack Vezzolo. 
Josita is survived by her daughter, Christy Porter; her sister, Brenda Godsey; her granddaughters, Elizabeth and Lauren Humpert; and her sisters-in-law, Lila Vezzolo and Karen Jones. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Jeffery Vezzolo (Beth), with whom she was especially close. 
A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2nd, at the Prunedale Grange, 17890 Moro Rd., in Prunedale. In lieu of sending flowers, please donate to a favorite charity or plant a flower in her honor.
