Donald "Don" Eugene Wells, 89, former resident of Salinas since 1942, went home to be his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2011, after a brave battle with Mesothelioma Lung Cancer. He was born on June 28, 1922 in Hiwassee, Arkansas.
He proudly served during World War II as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Modesto. Don was a partner in Greenbelt Aviation, where he operated a flight school and crop-dusting business.
After leaving the military he married Nell Grooms. They were married 48 years. He then married Nettie Giles. Don will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He leaves behind his wife, Nettie and her children; James Giles and June Tapp; four grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Rita and Will; brothers, Rex (Juanita) Wells, John (Vicki) Wells; sisters, Jane (Al) Knox, Bobbie Ann (Glen) Davis; sister-in-law, Ruth Wells; nephews, Allen, Gary, Kelly, Chad, Michael, and John David Wells, Aaron and James Yates, Steve and David Knox, and Justin Davis; nieces, Lynn Peterson, Shelly Borla and Melissa Knox.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Wells; sister, Emma Yates; brother, Louis Wells and nephews, Kenny and Dean Yates.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 4-7pm at the Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 11am at the Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. Salinas, CA 93901.
